When you can’t find the item you’re looking for in a store, what do you do?

What makes sense is to ask for help. But I don’t do that. I keep wandering around looking for clues and hoping I’ll stumble across the right aisle eventually.

I don’t like to ask for help. And God knows this. But God also knows I desperately need help in all kinds of areas of my life. So he made a way for me to have it…

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

– James 1:5 NLT

So… God is generous. He has wisdom to give. He gives it freely. But… he wants me to ask for it.

Why? Perhaps it’s because in the discomfort of asking him for wisdom, we’ll get to converse, and he’ll get to show me his goodness and generosity personally and powerfully in my life.

Did you catch that? God WANTS to have a conversation with YOU!

Where do you need wisdom today? Finances? Marriage? Health? Career choices? Educational direction? Parenting?

I’ve spent the last few years of my life leading a new church plant. We’ve faced a lot of challenges I’ve never faced before and every time we do, I feel ill-equipped. So I ask God for wisdom, and he’s faithful to provide it. He’s faithful to all of his promises in fact.

And as much as I need wisdom, I also desperately need to have a conversation with God. I need to come face-to-face with the inadequacy of what I know and be blown away by what he does know. And how kind he is to grant us a tiny bit of insight as we journey on.

Our generous God freely gives wisdom to any of his children willing to come to him and do this one simple thing… ask him for it.
